Name Droppers was born out of the desire of a small group of business people to have business networking be fun, flexible in its approach and serve the needs and wants of its members.
As part of a national association of networking clubs we were tired of the same old routine, the continuous pressure to provide leads (many of which turned out to be of little or no use) and having our subscriptions disappear into the Head Office pot over which we had no control.
So, on 7th November 2008, a small group of us met at a hotel on the outskirts of Northampton to discuss how to create a networking club that served its members.
We wanted the new entity to be different. Yes, we wanted referrals but not just for the sake of making up numbers. We were looking for members to work together in a collaborative way, to get to know each others’ businesses so that we could help each other develop our businesses.
And we wanted control over our money. Our subscriptions and fees were to be used to help grow the membership, not line some one else’s pocket. Socials were also important as part of the mix.
After just two meetings and some discussion Name Droppers was born.
Why Name Droppers? There was some resistance to the name at first; too quirky, what does it represent, will it put people off? Now we’ve come to love it and it’s part of our heritage.
It’s a club run by the members for the benefit of its members and everyone can have a say in what we do, how we do it and how we govern ourselves.
If this sounds as though it could be for you we meet every other Friday morning at 7.15 am at the Park Inn, Northampton and more details can be found on our contact page.
